Osias Wilenski
Osias Wilenski - Composer and pianistOsias Wilenski was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From very early age he studied piano with Maestro Vicente Scaramuzza and harmony and composition with Professor Erwin Leuchter.
Later, he won a schollarship to study at the Juilliard School of Music of New York where he lived for many years. His teachers were, amongst others, William Schuman and William Bergsma. He was the only pupil of russian virtuoso Simon Barere for piano. He then started a carreer as solosit given many recitals in the United States and South America.
In l960 he suddenly abandoned music to dedicate himself to the cinema and TV, where he worked profesionally for more than 12 years. He also directed several short films and 2 features, "El Perseguidor" based on the short story by Julio Cortázar and "Dale Nomás" a collection of short stories by south american writers. His short film "Moto Perpetuo" won first prize at the International Festival of Mar del Plata,  and another, "Ramón Gómez de la Serna", a documentary on the writers house in Buenos Aires, won the prize for short film at the San Sebastian Internatiional Festival in Spain.
In 1975 he returned to the musical field, not as soloist, but as opera coach at the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, a post he held until l989, when he was called to the Gran Teatro del Liceu of the city of Barcelona, where he still lives and has worked since.
He also returned to composition, revising most of his older works, and also destroying a large quantity. As a result of his activity  in that field his works become known and  played, though  mainly in South America.
In  l990 he becomes member of the Catalonian Composers Society and his works start to be make their place also in Europe. At present he has initiated  a large proyect which includes the recording of all his works, except the grand opera "Carvajal" which requires a stage presentation for its better appreciation.
